I had the pleasure of meeting members of Belmont CERT, Crieve Hall CERT, and Hermitage/Donelson CERT. I have suggested to them a possible joint exercise together this summer. Even though we serve our own communities we need to have the ability to respond to other areas of the city and state. This really can only be done if we know something about those neighborhoods and the teams in them. I know it is said that practice makes you perfect; which is incorrect. Practice makes you efficient at what you are doing. If we learn to work together now then if the time comes that we have to go to the aid of another community we will be better prepared to respond in a professional manner. Just like professional rescuers can be overwhelmed by the scope of a disaster; so can we. We may someday need their help and they someday ours.
I ask that all Richland District CERT Team members keep this idea of training with other CERT Teams in their minds. I will let you know when the exercise is finalized.
