HOW TO IMPROVISE IN DISASTER SITUTATIONS!

In true disasters supplies run out quickly. One of the best skills a CERT Team member can develop is the ability to improvise needed equipment out of what is relatively easy at hand. There is no way you can tote everything you may need with you to a disaster scene. It is imperative to use what is already there. Now just what is it I am saying?

A blanket becomes a stretcher to carry people with and also can be used to splint certain fractures and to immobilize the head.

Cardboard becomes splinting Material for fractures.

Sheets become bandages, pillows become splints.

Doors become backboards.

Ladders become stretchers.

You can see where I am going with this. Most of what you may need is already at the scene if you develop the ability to adapt ordinary things you may find into the things you can use. A good way to develop these skills is by practice. Look around your home and see what you could use in emergencies for bandages, splints, stretchers. You would be surprised what you can come up with.
