First Hatti, next Chilie, now New Zealand! Will we be next?

Here is a country that has experienced earthquakes before and yet devastation has struck them without warning. The funny thing about earthquakes is they can not be tracked on radar and they do not check in with us before they happen. I suppose it is just human nature to believe this could only happen to someone else far away from us but this could not be further from the truth. The people that live in the region known as the New Madrid fault region have been living on borrowed time. It is going to happen and I just pray to God people let what happen to Hatti, Chilie, and New Zealand be a lesson to us all that it can happen to us. Even though codes in this country has improved over the years there are still a lot of buildings that do not meet earthquake standards. Do you live in one of these buildings or do you work in one of them? Building collapse is just one problem. In most cities the water service, electrical services, and telephone service will be damaged because they are old and out of date. Most cities have been trying to make upgrades and improvements but this is a slow and costly process. Cost often wins out over safety in the real world. Please let the following pictures of the devastation in Christchurch, New Zealand burn into your brain. As we pray for these people that have been touched by this disaster let us learn from it. No one is excused from disasters! It can strike anyone at any time, and anywhere.
